About C. Patrick Ngwolo

The Seat Beside You

Walk into any criminal courtroom in Harris County and you will find the same arithmetic. The State arrives with investigators, crime laboratories, subpoena power, and time. The accused arrives with one seat beside them. C. Patrick Ngwolo has spent more than two decades making that seat count.

He came to the law the way an engineer approaches a machine: convinced that every system yields to the person patient enough to take it apart. He earned his degree in computer engineering at the University of Oklahoma in 2001, and the training left a permanent habit. Break the problem down. Find the weak joint. Test every assumption twice. He carried that habit through the University of Texas School of Law, where he earned his J.D. in 2005, and into a practice where the systems he takes apart now decide whether people keep their careers, their reputations, and their freedom.

Trained in Big Law, Proven in Trial Courts

Ngwolo learned high-stakes litigation from the inside as a litigation associate at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld in Houston, one of the largest law firms in the country. Big Law teaches exacting preparation at a scale most defense lawyers never see: complex matters, rooms of evidence, clients whose problems tolerate no casual approach. He took those standards and built a practice of his own, C. Patrick Ngwolo & Associates, PLLC, aimed at the cases where one person stands against the full weight of the government.

For more than twenty years he has tried, negotiated, and resolved cases in front of Harris County judges and juries. He knows these courts, these prosecutors, and the rhythms of this jurisdiction because he built that knowledge the only way it can be built: case by case, verdict by verdict. Juries here have returned not-guilty verdicts for his clients in aggravated assault trials. Courts have dismissed felony charges at trial settings and mid-trial. A Harris County grand jury declined to indict his client in one of the city's most publicized recent matters. That record is documented by independent sources and published here.

He has also served as an Assistant Public Defender at the Harris County Public Defender’s Office. Public defense is criminal trial work at its most demanding: heavy dockets, difficult facts, and clients with everything at stake. That work kept his trial instincts sharp in the same Harris County courtrooms where he defends private clients today, and it reflects a conviction that runs through his entire practice. The quality of a person’s defense should never depend on the size of their wallet.

Rooted in the Third Ward

Since 2012, Ngwolo has served as founder and lead pastor of Resurrection Houston, a ministry planted in the Cuney Homes community. He did not arrive for a photograph and leave. He stayed, year after year, in sustained relationship with the families, the struggles, and the resilience of the neighborhood he serves.

He ministered there alongside George Floyd. When Floyd died in Minneapolis in 2020, the Associated Press, The New York Times, ABC News, and reporters from around the world sought out Ngwolo to understand the man behind the headlines. He answered as someone who knew him: as a neighbor, a mentor to young men, a person. That same conviction drives his defense work. No client is reducible to an accusation, and Ngwolo walks into court carrying the credibility of a man juries recognize as genuinely invested in the people around him.

He practices criminal defense as an active member of the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association and has appeared as a guest on HCCLA's "Reasonable Doubt" broadcast.
